Examinations

Since opening my piano school in 2001 we have entered students for one hundred and sixty three piano examinations and ninety theory examinations with the Associated Board.

In piano examinations fifty three students (33%) achieved a distinction (the highest category). Fifty students (30%) achieved a merit and sixty (37%) students achieved the pass mark or above.

In theory examinations forty six students (51%) achieved a distinction (the highest category). Thirty four (38%) students achieved a merit and ten students (11%) achieved the pass mark or above

We strive for excellence in piano performance and theory exams and we think that our students respond admirably with such good results.

We also offer coaching for singing examinations. Pianists are also encouraged to improve their singing skills to increase their aural capabilities.

Students are also encouraged to enter local festivals and piano competitions. Many of our students have obtained trophies, medals and commendations from such competitions. One student won a national piano competition staged in London at the age of eight.

Our latest exam successes saw one student aged nine gain a distinction at grade 7 piano. Emily Hoggett (a student aged ten) gained a merit at grade 8 piano.

Examination Board

We use the Associated Board for all piano and theory examinations. The Associated Board examinations are the ‘gold standard’ that most schools and colleges accept when students apply for higher education.

We also offer mock examinations for all students preparing for practical and theory examinations in advance of the actual examination. This provides the student with greater confidence for the actual examination and provides a good analysis of the strengths and weaknesses for each candidate.
